Designer Counterfiters Get Busted

Posted on 04 Mar 2012 at 3:37am

Federal officials in New Jersey have indicted 26 people in the largest international counterfeit goods operations ever charged.  The defendants in the alleged ring attempted to smuggle $325 million in counterfeit goods from China through the Port Newark-Elizabeth Marine Terminal in Elizabeth.  The loot includes UGG boots, Gucci/LV/Couch handbags, and Burberry scarves .  They allege the conspirators concealed the counterfeit goods by using generic outer lids on boxes and generic labels on products to hide the counterfeit brand name labels beneath. Once the products cleared the ports, the conspirators would remove the outer lids and cut off the generic labels.

They claim that it not only hurts consumers and industries but also allows for other illegal activities.  Okay so I don’t support blatant rip-offs of designers but saying this sort of organization is somehow threatening the safety of our country is taking it too far.  The government needs to stop fear mongering and start focusing on our unemployment, foreclosures, rising inflation and gas prices!  Come on guys, get your priorities in check.

The charges and allegations contained in the complaints and indictment are merely accusations, and the defendants are considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.

Comment below and let me know how you feel about spending tax dollars on these types of federal indictments…

Burberry Prorsum F/W 2012 London

Posted on 20 Feb 2012 at 10:27am

Burberry Prorsum Fall/Winter 2012 Collection in London was timeless fashion. The attention to detail was incredible and some may say accessorized too much but I’ve never been one of them.  My favorite pieces were the grey wool military coat, the owl tee shirts, studded gloves and the purple quilted  coat at the end. However I could have done away with the bows on everything! I also was not so fond of the big pockets on the hips. What woman wants to add bulk to their hip area?

Parisian Model Tom Nicon Tragic Death

Posted on 21 Jun 2010 at 5:02am

Telegraph is reporting today that the Burberry model, Tom Nicon committed suicide after falling 40 feet from his apartment window in Italy.  He was reportedly depressed over his breakup with his girlfriend.  I wonder if the isolation of modeling is leading to the rising incidents of models and designers turning to drastic measures like suicide to fix their emotional issues? Unfortunately the faces of sadness are masked with a smile…

One of the last people to see Tom was Donatella Versace and she said: “Tom was with us on Friday morning for a final show fitting. He seemed fine and calm. He had already done three or four shows with us and he was a sweet boy. I just can’t understand why he did what he did. We would never have thought he would do something like this.

“When we heard the news we were all so upset and we still are all so very sad.”

Burberry model Tom Nicon commits suicide at start of Milan Fashion Week

The gorgeous French model, Tom Nicon was found dead in Milan today. This is only one day before Milan fashion week is set to begin. He reportedly went to his Versace fitting this morning and returned to his apartment and then was suppose to meet with his agent. He never showed up. He allegedly fell from his window but there is some speculation that it may have been a suicide. Tom had James Dean good looks with smoldering eyes and a bit of a rebel attitude. Nicon had appeared in shows for Versace, Louis Vuitton, Hugo Boss, and Burberry among others. Is there something going on in the fashion world as Nicon’s death is the 8th one latest in a string of top model deaths over the past couple of years, following Daul Kim and Ambrose Olsen’s.

Working in the movie industry for so long, I can understand the loneliness, heartbreak and self esteem issues that actors face so I can only imagine that it must be a million times worse for a model. They are booked on looks and looks alone. The superficiality of it must weigh heavily on a persons self worth. An anonymous model told Isaac Likes, “People think we are young and beautiful and rich and happy. But we’re not. We go to castings and the directors take one look at us and then we’re dismissed. You spend your whole life wondering what’s wrong with you. Why didn’t I get that job? You’re competing with your friends, you’re away from your family. The pressure is huge. It’s not the fairytale life people would expect.”

There may be some sort of tribute to the fallen model but no news of specifics yet. I will keep you posted. Our hearts and prayers go out to his friends and family in this tragic time. Please post your condolences below…
