LC LAUREN CONRAD FOR KOHLS
A few years ago it seemed like every celebrity was announcing a clothing line, perfume line or beauty product but the recession has hit the fashion industry right in the pocket book. Celebrity fashion lines are falling like stars whether because of creative differences in such cases as Mandy Moore’s Mblem or financial differences in the cases of Sarah Jessica Parker’s “Bitten” and Jennifer Lopez’s “SweetFace” and “JustSweet.” Mandy Moore founded her line in 2005 debuting with basic vintage inspired tshirts and branched out from there to a full collection. However, she hinted around recently that she hadlost touch with “it’s creator.” Isn’t the “creator” Mandy Moore? Or is this the fashion’s world’s version of Milly Vanilly? Either way I don’t much miss the mediocre fashion line as it was never very inspiring anyways. The unfortunate victim in this fashion folly is
SJP and her line, “Bitten.” I found her line to be very trendy and definately affordable with most pieces under $20. Unfortunately, Steve & Barry’s was the only retailer that carried her line and they filed for Chapter 11 last year. In the meantime SJP is searching for a new home for her defunked clothing line but has yet to find all the right components. “We have a lot of home offers,” Parker said. “We have to make sure that any partner we enter into an agreement with wants the same thing for the brand as we do, which is to serve the customer first. You know, it can’t be about commerce, it has to be about the customer, and we have to see who’s really willing to be that generous.” It’s refreshing to hear a fashion icon such as SJP talk about affordable yet trendy clothing as an item that first serves the customer. Fashion has always enjoyed a huge markup in prices with many high end labels just abusing their customers and what they are willing to pay for prestige. One of these overpriced celebrity lines by Jennifer Lopez felt the econonic sting as her high end line “SweetFace” went into hiatus as reported at the beginning of July 09.’ Sweetface, was her urban streetwear spin-off line created in 2003, but it discontined production after the current spring 2009 collection, WWD reported Wednesday. The company is said to be rethinking its point of view and may resurface at a later date. JLo also launched JustSweet in September 07 with her modern twist on the retro jumpsuit and sparkly dresses but this too was discontinued.
So, what choices are left out there for the masses who crave Celebrity brands at resonable prices? Well, there is always, LC Lauren Conrad for Kohl’s and that comes out this fall with prices ranging from $20-$60, Beyonce’s “Sasha Fierce” available at Macy’s and Dillards with prices ranging from $20-$125 or M for Madonna available at H&M with prices ranging from $20-$330. And for those of you that don’t care about the economy… there is always the recession proof Olsen twins with their line, “Elizabeth and James” where they boast about trying to keep all their items under $1000!

Just an amazing site!
